April 15, 2009

Wow. Honesty is not always the best policy. Or why marketing is the 8th Circle of Hell.

Today I’m kind of pissed off. I had everything ready for this Thursday of what was going to happen that night. It’s been hyped up for the last few days maybe close to the last two weeks. I’m talking about the first pack of the Saints Row 2 DLC.

Note the date it says on the end of the trailer of April 16, 2009. Well just a few hours ago Joystiq reports that the first pack of the Saints Row 2 DLC has been delayed for a week until the 23rd of this month. Now in this era of gaming this is quite normal of getting games or their DLC delayed for a few weeks from the date it said on the ad. Normally they do this because they feel they need to add some polish to the game/add-on or they found a very fatal bug that can screw things up very bad.

But being the sleuth I am I did some digging and I found out through the Saints Row 2 forms that the delay is not from any problems with the game but and you would not believe this if I tell you. THQ’s marketing team had the brightest idea of pushing the SR2 DLC back a week because on the 23rd as well they had a demo for their newest game coming out called Red Faction: Guerrilla and Saints Row two has two things from their newest Red Faction game as part of the DLC: The EDF Armor & The EDF Scout (an armored Pontiac Aztek looking SUV with a multi-target rocket launcher on the roof).

The reason why this other game matters is because according to their community manager after a few handful of posts of people wondering why the DLC was delayed he said that the marketing team of THQ thought it would be a grand idea to “wanted to sync them up so gamers can experience both quality Volition titles”. What. The. Fuck. Do they know how bullshit and FUBAR that idea is?

It looks like what those glue sniffers that makes up THQ’s marketing team were thinking is they were going to try and give Red Faction: Guerrilla free advertisement using a game they already had out that has a few elements from the new game. And as expected and like clockwork everybody is rightfully pissed off now about the real reason of why the DLC is not coming out. I say rightfully because even though it’s another week added of waiting everybody was promised this thing since December of last fucking year and we are now in mid April and it looks like we need to wait until basically of the end of the month now.

I really think marketing is the 8th Circle of Hell. I somewhat sat in a meeting at work of most of the companies marketing people when I was installing the new video teleconference system for the meeting room. And my God it sounds like marketing is nothing more then a glam way of ripping off the poor sucker for maximum profit with little value for The Mark who is buying the goods. Then again if you knew were I worked just about everybody who comes to my store is an uniformed dumbass who is asking to get his ass ripped off via cheap Chinese crap 8 ways from Sunday.

Anyways I’m being debatable if I want to keep the money for next week when the DLC does come out or spend it on one of the DLC packs for Burnout Paradise. More then likely I’m going to spend it now and get the last 5 bucks off the “MasterCard” after 10 days (Sony is weird like that) and head back to the 7-11 and get a new card closer to the time when the “true” release date of the DLC comes out.

I’m going to end this session now with a quote from The Row forms were I found out the true story and it’s quite QFT (Quoted for Truth) in regards how screwed up this. Later on.

"Wow. Honesty is not always the best policy. If I were you I totally would have just made up a reason like 'Oh yeah, there were bugs. We're fixing them.' There would have been like half-or maybe two thirds-as much bitching.

But hey, maybe you guys put the Ronin jacket in there, and maybe this whole thing never happened. Delay? What delay? I didn't hear about any delay. The 16th? I don't know what you're talking about. It was always set for the 23rd."
